Ryan Mallett Sends Tweet About Texans’ Starting QB Job, Deletes It (Photo)

Ryan Mallett is ready to take over as starting quarterback of the Houston Texans. Just not yet.

Confused? Don’t worry, apparently everyone else was too.

After the Texans lost to Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday — and starter Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for just 203 yards, two touchdowns and one interception — Mallett sent out the following tweet about his current place on the depth chart.

You’ll notice that’s a screenshot of Mallett’s tweet. That’s because the former New England Patriot deleted it hours later after fans and media accused him of saying he deserved the starting job over Fitzpatrick. The following morning, Mallett provided an explanation.

It’s hard to find fault with Mallett here. After playing second fiddle to Tom Brady for three years, he’s likely champing at the bit to prove himself on a struggling team whose quarterback has been mediocre at best.

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

Head coach Bill O’Brien — who worked with Mallett in New England in 2011 — said after Sunday’s loss that he’ll evaluate every position, including quarterback, so maybe Mallett’s opportunity will come sooner rather than later.

If it does, let’s just hope he doesn’t pull a Zach Mettenberger.
