Josh McDaniels Brushes Aside University Of Florida Head Coaching Rumor

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels sounds more focused on his current job than anything that lies ahead.

McDaniels was rumored earlier this week to be a candidate for the University of Florida’s head coaching job. When asked about the rumor during a conference call Tuesday, McDaniels opted to steer the conversation in a different direction.

“I really honestly don’t have any idea about that rumor,” McDaniels told reporters on the call. “I mean I heard it, but I have nothing to add to it. My focus is solely on the Chargers and getting our team ready to go this week on offense and trying to do the best thing I can. It’s a time of year that this happens quite a bit and I’ve been through it before. Keep your focus where it belongs, which is on your next opponent. We have plenty to work on and get prepared for because this is a really good defense we’re facing.”

Perhaps McDaniels at some point will shift his focus to the post recently vacated by former Florida head coach Will Muschamp. After all, it’s an enticing opportunity at the collegiate level.

But for now, it’s all about being Bill Belichick’s right-hand man.
