Longtime Red Sox PR Head Dick Bresciani Passes Away At 76

The Boston Red Sox lost a member of their family Saturday.

Dick Bresciani, longtime Red Sox Vice President and Public Relations head, passed away due to complications from leukemia at 76 years old, the team announced Monday.

Bresciani, or “Bresh” as many called him, was a member of the Red Sox Hall of Fame, University of Massachusetts Athletic Hall of Fame and the Cape Cod Baseball League Hall of Fame, according to a news release. The Robert O. Fishel Award, MLB’s highest honor in Public Relations, is just one of the many awards he earned during his career.

“Bresh was like a father to some members of our Front Office, an attentive uncle to many, and the institutional memory to all,” Red Sox President/CEO Larry Lucchino said in a statement. “He loved the Red Sox with a passion and zeal that reflected Boston and New England. He was a walking, talking encyclopedia of anecdotes and stories that cannot be replaced. The Red Sox family has lost a beloved and loyal member, and we offer our deepest sympathies to his beloved Joanne.”

Bresciani earned several awards for his success in public relations as a member of the Red Sox organization, but perhaps the most noteworthy of all was the 2014 “Good Guy award” he received in November.
