Marvin Lewis Calls Johnny Manziel ‘A Midget,’ Eventually Apologizes

Marvin Lewis slipped up and let his real feelings about Johnny Manziel known.

The Cincinnati Bengals head coach is in some hot water at the moment after some controversial comments to a radio show Monday night about the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

Lewis and the Bengals are preparing for Manziel and the Browns this weekend, and Lewis went out of his way to make the point that he doesn’t care who’s under center, whether it’s Manziel or Brian Hoyer.

“You gotta go defend the offense. You don’t defend the player,” Lewis said on WLW-AM in Cincinnati, according to ESPN. “Particularly a midget.”

Lewis eventually apologized to Manziel (who’s listed at 6 feet tall) and the Browns.

“I apologize to Johnny, the Browns and all the fans in Cleveland,” Lewis said, according to ESPN. “It was just a poor remark. I really didn’t mean anything by it.”
