Bill Belichick lets his hair down when he wants to.
The New England Patriots head coach showed his kinder, gentler side Tuesday at Super Bowl XLIX Media Day in Phoenix when asked about stuffed animals by linebacker Jerod Mayo’s daughter, Chya.
“What stuffed animals do I like?” Belichick responded with a smile. “I like, like, a little puppet. You can kind of put your fingers in. It’s a little monkey, and then he can talk and move his fingers and nod his head, so he can kind of talk back to you.”

Interesting. Well, in any event, Belichick, while still awkward, actually showed some personality. He even joked with Chya about the big bow she was sporting on her head.
“Can I ask you one question?” Belichick said. “Did your daddy fix your hair?”
Belichick has had his hands full since the Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship to set up a Super Bowl showdown with the Seattle Seahawks. He’s been forced to deal with the DeflateGate controversy in addition to preparing for Sunday’s big game. It’s nice to see him embrace a little humor.
See, Belichick isn’t always the emotionless monster everyone makes him out to be.
