Ex-Dolphin Rob Konrad Swims 9 Miles To Shore After Falling From Boat

Former Miami Dolphins fullback Rob Konrad appears to still be in excellent shape.

Konrad swam nine miles to shore after falling from his fishing boat off the coast of Florida on Wednesday, according to the Coast Guard, per ABC News. The 38-year-old was fishing alone when he fell from the 36-foot boat that had been on auto-pilot, then drifted away from him after he dropped into the water.

ABC News reports Konrad’s friends began getting worried when he didn’t meet them for dinner, prompting the Coast Guard to send a helicopter to look for him.

Petty Officer Mark Barney of the U.S. Coast Guard told ABC News that Konrad was in the water for approximately 10 to 12 hours. He made it back to shore around 4 a.m. Thursday and contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, who found him on the beach at 4:40 a.m.

Konrad was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for possible hypothermia.

The former Syracuse player suited up for the Dolphins from 1999 to 2004, catching 111 passes for 854 yards and six touchdowns and rushing for another 114 yards and a score.
