Bruins Recall Goaltender Jeremy Smith From Providence On Emergency Basis

The Boston Bruins recalled goaltender Jeremy Smith from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis Friday, the team announced.

Smith is 14-8-4 with a 2.08 goals against average and a .931 save percentage this season. He was originally a second-round draft pick in 2007 by the Nashville Predators and has never appeared in an NHL game.

It’s possible the Bruins want to give No. 1 goalie Tuukka Rask a rest after playing in 18 consecutive games and 27 of the last 28. Rask also isn’t feeling well.

Smith’s recall gives the Bruins three goaltenders on the NHL roster, along with Niklas Svedberg and Rask. It’s not yet known which netminder will start in Friday night’s road game against the New Jersey Devils.

The B’s will host the Arizona Coyotes at TD Garden on Saturday night.
