GLENDALE, Ariz. — Winning a Super Bowl didn’t suddenly remove the chip from Julian Edelman’s shoulder.
The Patriots wide receiver, basking in a Super Bowl XLIX win, thought back to Week 4, when ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer blasted New England for starting the season 2-2 after a 41-14 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
“You go in, we’re getting our teeth kicked in by Kansas City,” Edelman said. “You lose that game, we come back, we win some games and now we’re Super Bowl champs. What did Trent Dilfer say? That the Patriots are the worst team? They can’t win? You know, it’s unbelievable to hear that guy say that. It’s embarrassing — for him.”
Dilfer, himself a former Super Bowl-winning quarterback, dramatically changed his tune after the Patriots won Sunday night.
