Report: Hawks, Ray Allen’s Representatives Have Talked; No Deal Imminent

Ray Allen looks like he’s going to take as much advantage of his free agency as humanly possible.

The legendary sharp-shooter hasn’t committed to playing this season, and he still seems to be weighing his options. The Altanta Hawks could be a possibility, however, and the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports the Hawks have reached out to Allen’s representatives.

According to the report, nothing is imminent between the two sides.

Allen, 39, is taking a wait-and-see approach as to whether he’ll actually return. He reportedly was leaning toward retirement, according to an ESPN report in late December. However, a CSN Washington report just two weeks later indicated it’s “not out of the picture” that Allen could join former Boston Celtics teammate Paul Pierce with the Wizards.

The Golden State Warriors also had interest in Allen, team general manager Bob Myers confirmed in December.

Allen’s former boss, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, thinks Allen might wait until the NBA All-Star break to make a decision. The All-Star break is next weekend, so one would think Allen could be close to making a decision.

Allen would be an intriguing option for any team looking to add a veteran outside threat with championship experience. Allen’s numbers did fall off last season, as he shot 37.5 percent from 3-point range, one of the lowest percentages of his career.
