Report: NFL Salary Cap Expected To Be Between $140M And $143M In 2015

NFL teams could have a bit more cash to work with in the 2015 season.

The league notified teams Wednesday that the NFL’s salary cap is expected to be in the $140 million to $143 million range, league sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to Schefter, that range is at least $1.5 million more than initially expected. The league projected at a December owners’ meeting that the salary cap would be between $138.6 million and $141.8 million.

The salary cap has increased dramatically over the past few years. It jumped $10 million from $123 million to $133 million between 2013 and 2014, and if the latest projections are accurate, we could see another $10 million increase this year.

An increased cap figure especially would benefit the New England Patriots, who currently are $5 million over the cap, according to projections on OverTheCap.com. The Patriots have several major decisions to make this offseason, including whether to pick up the $20 million option on star cornerback Darrelle Revis.
