NHL players are known for their toughness, and apparently that’s rubbed off on their fans.
Chicago fan Alexis Bovard was injured at the Blackhawks’ game Friday against the Edmonton Oilers when winger Benoit Pouliot checked Chicago defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson into the boards during the first period, dislodging a pane of plexiglass. The edge of the glass split her head open, requiring stitches.
But Bovard wasn’t about to let a little head wound ruin her first NHL game ever.
Instead, she remained in her seat after medics bandaged her head and opted to get stitched up at the arena during the second intermission.

“If I even remember correctly, I was watching the game, and you know the big hits come to the glass, and the next thing I know the glass is on my head and blood is everywhere, and people are all around me, and I make it up the stairs and hear all this applause, which was nice to hear,” Bovard told Sportsnet on Friday.
“I’m just bummed it happened so early (in the game). It’s quite a first game. First NHL game. First Blackhawks game.”
Chicago also beat the Oilers 2-1 in a shootout. Quite the first game, indeed.
