Championship Trophy Presenter Screws Up, Mistakes Providence For BU (Video)

Providence College shocked everybody with its 4-3 win over Boston University on Saturday night.

Including, it seems, the national championship trophy presenter.

The Friars used an absurdly brutal BU own goal and a fantastic save from their own goaltender Saturday night at TD Garden to win the first Division I national hockey championship in school history.

It was a stunning result, to say the least, and apparently one that NCAA men’s hockey committee member Tom McGinnis hadn’t planned for when he handed the championship trophy off to Providence.

The good new is that McGinnis caught himself in his mistake and laughed it off. The bad news is that he still called Providence the Terriers.

Somewhere, Rikk Wilde shakes his head knowingly.

Fortunately, the Friars were too fired up to care about the slip-up. After this season’s storybook ending, though, you can bet people will remember their name going forward.
