Report: NHL Says Marc Methot’s Shot In OT Didn’t Cross Goal Line In Leafs-Senators
The Ottawa Senators lost a crucial point in the Eastern Conference playoff race Sunday night when they fell 2-1 in a shootout to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
However, at one point in overtime, Senators defenseman Marc Methot unleashed a shot that beat Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier. The puck appeared to go wide of the net as it bounced off the end boards into the corner.
TSN’s Darren Dreger reported Monday that the NHL was looking into the play, but it was determined the puck did go wide of the net and not through it.

Even if the league found the puck did cross the goal line and a mistake was made, the Senators would not have received an extra point in the standings, nor would they have been able to replay any portion of the game. But at least there is no controversy with the result.
The Senators sit two points behind the Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins as the only team outside the East playoff picture that hasn’t yet been eliminated.
