Red Sox Recall Steven Wright From Triple-A, Option Heath Hembree To Pawtucket

BOSTON — The Red Sox announced a pair of roster moves Monday afternoon.

Right-handed pitcher Steven Wright has been recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket, while right-handed pitcher Heath Hembree has been optioned to the PawSox.

Wright has pitched five innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs in one appearance for Boston this season.

The addition of Wright gives Red Sox manager John Farrell another option out of the bullpen, which has been used quite a bit this season.

“We’ve had some starts that have gone deeper,” Farrell said before Monday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

“Not ideal, not to where we’re targeting or hopeful that our rotation will take us each and every night,” Farrell added. “But we’ve leaned on the bullpen early on in the year, and that’s not completely uncommon until the rotation hits its full stride. Steven being here in the event something unforeseen takes place, we’ve got someone to protect us, with length. We had to go to the bullpen early (Sunday), but that’s where we are (Monday).”
