Seahawks’ Bruce Irvin Makes Clueless April Fools’ Joke About Drunk Driving

There usually are two categories when it comes to April Fools’ Day jokes: Most are either lame or just kind of stupid. There’s rarely any middle ground.

While New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady falls into the former category with his body cast Facebook post, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bruce Irvin is catching flak for the latter, thanks to a questionable drunk driving joke.

Irvin caught plenty of heat Wednesday morning on Twitter after a couple of tweets hinted at some sort of drunk driving incident. Below are the two tweets (in screenshot form in case Irvin decides to delete them).

Don’t worry, folks. Just joking!

Haha, let’s all guffaw at the drunk driving joke!

What do you think?  Leave a comment.

There’s a natural inclination in today’s day and age to jump down someone’s throat for jokes like this, especially if it’s a situation that hits close to home for some. Social implications aside, it’s just kind of stupid to even open yourself up to this sort of controversy when you didn’t even have to. The main criticism of Irvin shouldn’t even be that he’s insensitive rather than he’s just kind of a dummy.

Maybe a body cast joke isn’t so bad after all.
