Senators Coach Wants P.K. Subban Suspended, Threatens Revenge Otherwise

It didn’t take long for things to get nasty between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban was ejected during the second period of Game 1 in the teams’ first-round series after he two-handed slashed Ottawa’s Mark Stone. The slash earned Subban a 5-minute major and a game misconduct, as Stone quickly went to the locker room. Stone eventually returned to the game, but he went back to the locker room a couple of times over the course of the game.

Ottawa head coach Dave Cameron isn’t convinced that missing half of a game is enough for Subban. He called on the NHL to suspend Subban and hinted the Senators might take things into their own hands if there isn’t supplemental discipline.

Well then.

Here’s hoping the nasty in this series continues to rise. After all, these teams played one of the most memorable series in recent memory in 2013, including a controversial hit, personal attacks through the media and a nasty line brawl.

Things did get a little ugly in the seconds after the Canadiens held on for the Game 1 win. A near-brawl broke out after the siren, which could set the tone for a volatile Game 2 on Friday night.

UPDATE (11:10 a.m. ET): P.K. Subban reportedly won’t be suspended for Game 2, ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday morning.
