Adam Jones Not Quite Ready To Give Eduardo Rodriguez Full Props Just Yet

If Eduardo Rodriguez and Adam Jones never met during their time in the same organization, Rodriguez certainly introduced himself Tuesday night.

The Boston Red Sox left-hander — who came to the Sox in a trade last summer with the Baltimore Orioles — announced his presence with authority in a big way against Jones and the O’s. Rodriguez went six scoreless innings in a no decision against his former organization and got the best of Jones in the fifth inning.

In a big spot with runners on in a scoreless game, Jones came to the plate looking to put Baltimore on the board. However, Rodriguez was able to strike him out on three pitches, including blowing a fastball by him to get the K. Rodriguez pumped his fist a couple of times before heading back to the dugout. Jones didn’t appear to enjoy Rodriguez’s celebratory antics, as he stared at him some after the at-bat.

After the game, though, Jones had good things to say about the Boston prospect, although he’s not entirely sold just yet.

“He came at me with his best, and I missed two pitches,” Jones told reporters, per the Boston Herald. “He’s got velocity. He beat me on that one. We won the game, though. He’s got good (expletive). He was in a big trade, so he had to be pretty good. He’s, what, 23? Yeah, he’s got good stuff. He’s had, what, 3-4 starts up here now? I want to see him have 15-20, see how that continues to go. But he’s got good stuff.”

Orioles catcher Matt Wieters raved about the young southpaw’s start, though.

“He’s got special stuff, there’s no doubt about it,” Wieters said, per the Herald. “He’s one of those young kids that I really liked catching. He wasn’t intimidated at all when he was 20, 21, going in those big-league games (in spring training), throwing against us in intrasquads. That’s the kind of mentality you want when your guy goes out there on the mound.”
