BOSTON — Right-handed reliever Heath Hembree joined the Red Sox before Friday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox placed left-hander Craig Breslow on the paternity leave list, prompting Hembree’s call-up. Hembree, who was acquired in last season’s Jake Peavy trade, is making his third major league stint of 2015.

Breslow owns a 4.03 ERA in 18 relief appearances spanning 22 1/3 innings this season. The 34-year-old lefty has struggled of late, posting a 7.94 ERA over his last 11 outings dating to April 26.

Hembree has been excellent at Triple-A Pawtucket, posting a 0.83 ERA and a 0.69 WHIP in 18 appearances while recording seven saves for the PawSox. The 26-year-old has made two relief appearances with Boston this season, allowing six runs over 2 1/3 innings.
