BOSTON — It was clutch. And it was impressive.

Hanley Ramirez swatted a go-ahead, two-run homer in the seventh inning Sunday to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 5-4 win over the Houston Astros at Fenway Park. Ramirez, who was fooled on a 1-2 changeup from left-hander Tony Sipp, flicked the ball into the Monster seats with one hand.

Few players in Major League Baseball possess Ramirez’s strength, which was on display in the Red Sox’s series finale against the Astros. The home run was Ramirez’s 18th of the season and his fifth over his last 10 games dating back to June 19.

One can criticize Ramirez’s defense, which has been shoddy this season. But there’s no denying how big an impact the three-time All-Star can make with his bat.
