John Henry: Boston Red Sox ‘Respond To Reason Rather Than Pressure’

There’s no doubt Red Sox fans are unhappy about the 2015 season, but that doesn’t mean Boston’s brass is going to have a fire sale.

There was plenty of speculation about Boston making moves when general manager Ben Cherington and principal owner John Henry traveled to Toronto with the Red Sox in town to play the Blue Jays, but per WEEI’s Rob Bradford, the trip simply was for Major League Baseball meetings. And Henry let Bradford know he has no plans to shake up the front office in the middle of a season, no matter how badly it’s going.

“Stability in an organization is a key element,” Henry said. “Some people thrive on instability, but most organizations, most people, really thrive when there’s stability.”

Henry was asked if sticking to your guns was more difficult in baseball than other businesses, but he said the only difference is that you can’t react to every naysayer.

“No, it’s just that you have a lot more outside pressure,” Henry told Bradford. “We don’t really respond to that. We respond to reason rather than pressure.”
