Reports: Giants’ Jason Pierre-Paul Injures Hands In July 4 Fireworks Accident

Jason Pierre-Paul learned the hard way how dangerous fireworks can be.

The New York Giants defensive end injured his hands in a fireworks accident over Fourth of July weekend, according to multiple reports. According to ESPN.com, Pierre-Paul was hospitalized with the injuries, but sources told ESPN the injuries aren’t expected to be career-threatening.

According to the ESPN.com report, the Giants defensive end suffered “severe burns” on his palm and the tips of three fingers and one finger is being tested for nerve damage. Luckily for Pierre-Paul, he didn’t lose any fingers and he’s not expected to have any sort of permanent damage.

Pierre-Paul posted this video to his Instagram page Saturday, obviously before the reported accident. In fact, he mentions fireworks in the video.

Also, that van behind him apparently held all of the fireworks, according to tweets.

It’s unclear at this point what the future holds for Pierre-Paul. He had a good 2014 season, and the Giants ended up putting the franchise tag on him after the season. However, he hasn’t actually signed the tender so he’s technically not under contract.
