Rick Porcello officially is back with the Boston Red Sox.
The right-hander was activated Wednesday from the 15-day disabled list, where he was placed on Aug. 2 with triceps soreness. Porcello is scheduled to start against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night.
In 20 starts for Boston this season, Porcello had a 5-11 record with a 5.81 ERA. He also pitched two rehab starts between Single-A Lowell and Triple-A Pawtucket, where he posted a 2.89 ERA.
To make room for Porcello on the 25-man roster, pitcher Jonathan Aro was optioned to Pawtucket. He joined the Red Sox on Sunday for the third time this season, but he didn’t appear in any games. Aro has pitched in three games with the big league club this season, allowing six runs over 4 2/3 innings.
