Rick Porcello is back.
The Boston Red Sox right-hander was masterful Wednesday night in his first game back from the disabled list. Porcello blanked the Chicago White Sox through seven innings at U.S. Cellular Field, allowing just five hits and issuing no walks while striking out five in Boston’s 3-0 win.
That performance was enough to earn Porcello Amica Pitcher of the Week honors.
The outing was a great sign for the 26-year-old, who was making his first major league appearance since July 29. With the exception of that game, a 9-2 loss to Chicago, Porcello had been pitching well before his DL stint, allowing just five runs over a three-game span while striking out 15.
Overall, it’s been tough sledding for Porcello in his first season with the Red Sox. But Wednesday’s dominant display proved there’s hope for a turnaround in the future.
