Tom Brady Starts, Plays Limited Snaps In Patriots-Saints Preseason Game

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady started Saturday night’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints, but he didn’t receive many reps in the 26-24 win.

Brady played on three drives before being replaced by backup Jimmy Garoppolo late in the first quarter. He threw just five passes, with one completion to tight end Jimmay Mundine and another to running back Dion Lewis totaling 13 yards.

The Patriots gained 12 yards on nine plays with Brady in the game. The reigning Super Bowl MVP is 3-of-9 passing for 23 yards and zero touchdowns over the first two preseason matchups.

Most of the snaps have been given to Garoppolo, which isn’t surprising because he might have to begin the regular season as the starting quarterback depending on how the Deflategate situation unfolds in court.

Garoppolo showed impressive poise in the pocket and decision making as he led the Patriots offense on several scoring drives. The second-year QB completed 28 of 33 passes for 269 yards and a touchdown with one interception.
