Daniel Sturridge isn’t all the way back from a lengthy injury layoff, but he’s closing in on his return.
Sturridge participated in a full practice session with his Liverpool teammates Thursday, according to Sky Sports and The Liverpool Echo.
Sturridge took part in contact drills for the first time since he returned last week to Liverpool’s practice facility at Melwood following a months-long rehabilitation stint in Boston. He previously had been training on his own in limited sessions.
Sturridge is unlikely to play for Liverpool against Manchester United on Saturday at Old Trafford, but he could make his 2015-16 debut before the end of September.
Sturridge hasn’t appeared for Liverpool since April when he underwent hip surgery. The procedure ended an injury-ravaged season in which he played in just 18 games and scored five goals.
Liverpool hopes Sturridge, 25, finally is cured of his injury woes and can become the devastating striker he was in the previous season and a half.
