Celtics Waive Perry Jones, Corey Walden, Trim Roster To Max 15 Players

The Boston Celtics waived Perry Jones III and Corey Walden on Saturday.

The Celtics needed to cut two players to get down to the 15-man roster limit before their season opener Wednesday against the Philadelphia 76ers, and Jones and Walden were the odd men out.

Boston acquired Jones from the Oklahoma City Thunder in July in exchange for a second-round draft pick and cash. The forward was a first-round pick out of Baylor back in 2012 but has struggled during his brief NBA career. He averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds in 43 appearances with the Thunder during the 2014-15 season. He appeared in five games for the Celtics this preseason, but only played 8.3 minutes per contest.

Walden was a training-camp invite after going undrafted out of Eastern Kentucky.
