Sebastian Giovinco Solo Stunner Is MLS ‘Goal Of The Year’ Front-Runner (Video)

Here’s an apt illustration why Sebastian Giovinco is the best player in Major League Soccer right now.

Giovinco nominated himself for the MLS Goal of the Year Award on Wednesday, scoring a remarkable solo goal for Toronto FC in its 2-1 win over the New York Red Bulls.

Giovinco entered the game as a substitute in the 71st minute and needed six minutes to work his magic. The Italian dynamo demonstrated strength, skill and boldness by beating three defenders on the dribble and goalkeeper Luis Robles with a powerful, well-placed drive.

Giovinco’s game-winner confirmed Toronto’s first-ever appearance in the MLS playoffs, following eight years of regular-season futility.

The goal was Giovinco’s 22nd of the season, drawing him level with Kei Kamara for the league lead. Giovinco also tops MLS with 12 assists, making him the runaway favorite to claim the league’s MVP award.

Giovinco, 28, joined Toronto from Juventus in January. Toronto’s arrival in MLS’ promised land nine months later is no coincidence.
