There was a method to David Justice’s madness.
Justice went on a Twitter rant Tuesday night about his ex-wife, actress Halle Berry, who recently filed for divorce from her third husband, Olivier Martinez. The former major leaguer since has deleted his series of tweets while clarifying exactly why he flew off the handle.
Justice said in his initial tweets he never hit Berry and isn’t the ex-boyfriend she previously said caused permanent damage to her left ear. Berry never identified Justice as the one who caused the damage, but she filed for a restraining order against him when they separated in 1996.
According to PEOPLE, Justice tweeted (and later deleted): “It just makes me mad to still see the same lie being perpetuated about the source of her abuse being me.Never happened!”
Justice also mentioned Martinez and Berry’s other exes amid his initial outburst, reportedly tweeting: “Only the guys in the relationship with Halle know the real deal. There will be another, of course. He’ll be called ‘The Best’ until it ends.”
Sources close to Berry told TMZ after Justice’s Twitter tirade that she never insinuated the former big league outfielder hit her during their relationship. The TMZ report seemingly led to a change of heart, as Justice later explained why he went off about her most recent divorce in the first place.
“I’m not trying to be the voice of Halle’s exes,” Justice told PEOPLE. “What I was trying to do is let everybody understand that I am in the community coaching kids from baseball to basketball to football. I’m trying to be a role model and I don’t want these kids and my kids’ friends reading (reports) and then everyone looking at me like, ‘I didn’t know coach did that to some woman.’ I don’t want parents going, ‘I didn’t know my kid’s coach did that to some woman.’ ”
Justice also took to Twitter to express a similar message.
I just want to thank Halle for finally squashing all of the rumors in the past, that I had physically abused her, causing the hearing loss.

My intention was not to bash Halle,as I specifically said that Halle has NEVER verbally said it.I just wished that when the rumors were out

She could've squashed them at that time.I have 3 kids and a wife for 15 years. It was important that my kids knew that their dad didn't do
