Notre Dame found itself on the outside of the college football playoff looking in Saturday and needed a win to jump back into the conversation.
The Irish came close, but Stanford senior kicker Conrad Ukropina drilled a 45-yard game-winning field goal to knock Notre Dame’s playoff hopes aside.

Ukropina was pretty pumped after the win, and deservedly so.

Stanford probably shouldn’t have needed that field goal to win the game, considering Irish quarterback Deshone Kizer was down before scoring Notre Dame’s then-g0-ahead touchdown with under a minute remaining in the game.

The Cardinal won by a 38-36 final score.
