BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid left the ice in the second period of Wednesday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden after taking a puck to the face.
UPDATE (9:42 p.m. ET): McQuaid has returned to the game at 17:11 of the second period. He missed just a few minutes.
ORIGINAL STORY: McQuaid was battling Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin to the left of Boston’s net when a shot from Pittsburgh defenseman Brian Dumoulin sailed high and caught him in the face.

McQuaid put his glove to his jaw for a short while before skating on his own power down the tunnel toward the B’s locker room.
The veteran D-man has battled plenty of injuries in his NHL career, but he had played in all 29 of Boston’s games entering Wednesday.
