David Price Officially Signs Seven-Year Red Sox Contract; Garin Cecchini Designated

It’s official.

The Boston Red Sox on Friday signed left-hander David Price to a seven-year contract, which runs through the 2022 season and has an opt-out clause after 2018. The team didn’t announce any financial details, but multiple reports pegged the deal at $217 million, the biggest contract in MLB history for a pitcher.

The Red Sox tweeted a GIF of Price in a Boston uniform in announcing the deal.

Boston designated infielder/outfielder Garin Cecchini for assignment to make room for Price on the 40-man roster.

Price, who will wear No. 24 in Boston, is a five-time All-Star and the 2012 Cy Young Award winner.
