More than a decade later, Donovan McNabb remains adamant he didn’t blow chunks.
There’s long been a rumor that McNabb threw up in the huddle — likely due to nerves — during the fourth quarter of the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl XXXIX loss to the New England Patriots. But according to the former Eagles quarterback, who recently answered questions on Reddit, no vomit was spewed — literally, at least — as he unsuccessfully attempted to lead his team back.
“No, I didn’t puke,” McNabb responded on Reddit to a question about the tale’s validity. “It’s unfortunate that we still talk about this 11 years after playing in the Super Bowl. But, no. That did not happen and hopefully we can stop talking about it. Once again, go watch the game tape.”
McNabb had a great career with the Eagles. The six-time Pro Bowl QB is the franchise’s career leader in wins, pass attempts, pass completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. He guided the Eagles to five NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl in his 11 seasons at the helm in Philadelphia.
McNabb never won the big one, though. And there’s been chatter throughout the years that he simply didn’t have the stamina and/or the intestinal fortitude on that fateful night in February 2005.
Perhaps that knock is true. Just don’t say he puked.
