One of the Boston Red Sox’s starting pitchers had an injury scare Saturday at spring training.
Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez was fielding balls in the outfield at Fenway South in Fort Myers, Fla., when he awkwardly turned his right knee. He was on the ground for a few minutes following the incident and he was taken back to the clubhouse afterward, according to WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford. But the injury turned out to be nothing serious.
“It was a scare because I feel like I broke my knee,” Rodriguez said, via WEEI.com. “It’s fine now. It was a scare like that but I’m going to be fine.”
Red Sox manager John Farrell elaborated on the injury following Saturday’s practice.
“On a PFP play, he was backing and caught a spike and tweaked his knee a little bit,” Farrell told reporters, via WEEI.com. “Going through the training room assessment, unable to reproduce any kind of discomfort. We’ll certainly get a better read on it when he comes in the morning.”
