NBA Trade Rumors: Channing Frye Targeted By Cavaliers, Clippers, Among Others

Orlando Magic center Channing Frye is capable of stretching the floor with his 3-point range, making him a sought-after player leading into Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports has reported, via league sources, that the Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams interested in acquiring Frye. The Los Angeles Clippers also are in on Frye, per Wojnarowski, and they were working on a potential deal Tuesday.

The Cavs have been shopping center Timofey Mozgov, who’s a good rim protector but struggles scoring and defending as part of a small-ball lineup. This is a problem because the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs — Cleveland’s two toughest threats in winning a championsip — excel when they go small.

Frye is much more suited for small-ball lineups than Mozgov because of his superior athleticism and outside shooting. The Magic center is converting on 39.7 of his shot attempts from beyond the arc.

Frye is signed through 2017-18 at a little more than $7 million per season, per Hoops Hype.
