Dana White: Ronda Rousey Will Be Miesha Tate’s Next UFC Opponent Later In Year

The UFC women’s bantamweight division underwent a major upheaval Saturday night thanks to Miesha Tate’s shocking victory over Holly Holm. But Dana White knew the company’s next move all along.

The UFC president discussed the fallout from UFC 196, including Tate winning the bantamweight title, Monday on “The Jim Rome Show.” According to the boss, the plan all along was for the winner to face Ronda Rousey, even if Holm lost her first championship bout to Tate.

“We’ve been saying the whole time leading up to this fight, whoever wins this fight will fight Ronda in October or November,” White said.

Rousey didn’t watch Saturday’s fight, so the former champion didn’t know her next opponent until White relayed that information to her.

“I called her when I left the arena, and she was like ‘All right man, listen. I knew I was going to have to fight both of these women again, so it looks like it’s going to be Miesha first,’” White said.

Rousey was quite clear leading up to the bout that she was hoping for a rematch with Holm, but she will have to wait a little longer for that chance.
