Denver Nuggets rookie point guard Emmanuel Mudiay is having a very good season, and his best highlight came Wednesday night as he lifted his team to victory with an incredible buzzer-beating shot.
Mudiay hit an off-balance 40-foot attempt that left his hands with 0.1 seconds remaining to give the struggling Philadelphia 76ers their 63rd loss in 72 games.
Denver was supposed to be among one of the bottom dwellers in the Western Conference this season, but thanks to Mudiay and a few other young players, the Nuggets have overachieved a bit. They sit 5.5 games out of a playoff spot entering Thursday’s games.
Mudiay is averaging 12.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and a team-leading 5.6 assists per game as a rookie.
As for the Sixers, Mudiay’s heroics sent them to another crushing defeat and dropped them to an NBA-worst 9-63 record. The league’s next-worst team, the Los Angeles Lakers, is 6.5 games ahead of Philly at 15-56.
