Hanley Ramirez Shows Off Defense With Impressive Diving Stop At First (Video)

Moving to left field didn’t work for Hanley Ramirez last year, but if he keeps making plays like he did Wednesday night, first base might be a different story.

The new Boston Red Sox first baseman stopped a potential double down the right field line during Boston’s 9-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins with an impressive diving play, which he topped off with a flip to pitcher Koji Uehara for the out.

The play comes a day after Red Sox manager John Farrell had some encouraging words about Ramirez’s defense and effort this spring at first base.

“His energy has been great,” Farrell recently told reporters, per MassLive.com.  “There’s been multiple games where we’ve had him out of the game and he’s asked to go back for two or three innings more on defense. And that’s through his own request. So yeah, he’s been very good.”
