Report: Ex-Patriots Receiver Brandon LaFell, Bengals Nearing Deal

Brandon LaFell might be on the verge of finding new work.

The veteran wide receiver is nearing a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals, ProFootballTalk.com reported, citing a league source Wednesday morning. The details of the reported near-agreement are unknown at this point.

LaFell is on the market after the Patriots released him on March 2. He spent two seasons in New England, including a career season in 2014 where he helped the Patriots win a Super Bowl. LaFell set career highs in receptions, yards and touchdowns in 2014 before coming back to earth in 2015. He appeared in just 11 games last season, catching 37 passes for 515 yards and no touchdowns.

The signing makes sense for the Bengals, who have seen both Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones leave in free agency this offseason. LaFell is three years older than Sanu, but the two players are virtually the same size. Both stand 6-foot-2 with Sanu weighing a few more pounds than LaFell.
