The national soccer teams of Chile and Argentina will resume hostilities Thursday in the pressure-cooker that is FIFA World Cup qualifying.
Chile hosts Argentina at the National Stadium in Santiago. Yes, that’s the same stadium in which Chile triumphed over Argentina on penalty kicks last summer in the final of the 2015 COMNEBOL Copa America.
The teams’ forms have changed since then, with both struggling to take off in the early rounds of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. Chile sits fifth in the standings with seven points after four games. Argentina is sixth with five points from four games.
