Anyone looking for am early upset in their NCAA Tournament bracket probably circled Virginia Commonwealth University at first glance. The No. 10 seed Rams sport a 24-10 record and were the co-regular season champions in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Not to mention, the 2011 Rams squad that danced its way to the Final Four as a No. 11 seed was among the best Cinderella stories of all time.
That won’t stop No. 7 seed Oregon State from showing up Friday, though. The Beavers have plenty to be happy about after making their first NCAA Tournament since 1990, so every day they get to play in March is just icing on the cake. They’re led by Gary Payton II, the son of Hall of Famer Gary Payton.
