The Cleveland Indians recently demoted Chief Wahoo, opting instead for the “Block C” as their primary logo.
That’s not enough, according to ESPN’s Bomani Jones.
Although the Indians have been scaling back on their use of the controversial Chief Wahoo logo, which many find offensive, Jones clearly is among those who would like to see it disappear altogether. And in order to make a statement, Jones wore an eyebrow-raising T-shirt Thursday while filling in for Mike Golic on ESPN’s “Mike and Mike.”
The T-shirt (seen below) says “Caucasians” in script rather than “Indians.” It also includes a white version of the Chief Wahoo logo and features a money sign in place of the usual feather.

The Chief Wahoo logo was removed from the Indians’ road cap in 2011 and from their home batting helmet in 2013. Indians owner Paul Dolan recently noted that it’s part of the team’s history and legacy, though, which would explain why the logo still appears on the sleeve of the players’ jerseys.
“We do have empathy for those who take issue with it,” Dolan recently said, according to The Plain Dealer in Cleveland. “We have minimized the use of it and we’ll continue to do what we think is appropriate.”
Dolan and Jones obviously differ on what they feel is “appropriate.”
