Will Carson Wentz Go No. 1 To Rams After Blockbuster Trade With Titans?

New season. New city. New face of the franchise?

The Los Angeles Rams (formerly the St. Louis Rams) already are making noise in their return to California, landing the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft in a blockbuster trade Thursday with the Tennessee Titans. The presumption is the Rams will draft a quarterback with the top pick, and according to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times, they’re leaning toward North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz.

Don’t order your “Wentz” Rams jersey just yet, though. California quarterback Jared Goff remains a possibility, assuming Los Angeles wants to draft a signal-caller. The Rams currently have Case Keenum and Nick Foles in their quarterback mix, which clearly is an underwhelming situation.

Wentz, 23, guided North Dakota State to its fifth consecutive FCS national championship last season as a fifth-year senior. The 6-foot-5 quarterback also had a very impressive pro day and has been soaring up mock drafts to the point where he’s now perhaps the front-runner to go No. 1 overall.

Goff, 21, was named first-team All-Pac-12 for the 2015 campaign while guiding Cal to a 7-5 regular season and a win in the Armed Forces Bowl. The 6-foot-4 junior officially declared for the NFL draft after the season, at which point many experts pegged him as the best quarterback available.

It goes without saying that this is a huge draft for the Rams, who haven’t made the playoffs since the 2004 season. They can’t afford to fumble the snap, especially after surrendering so much in their trade with the Titans to land the No. 1 overall pick.
