David Ortiz Caps His Final Opening Day With Two-Run Homer As Red Sox Win

David Ortiz enjoyed the final Opening Day of his career to the fullest.

The Boston Red Sox designated hitter had a great day at the plate against the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday, going 2-for-4 with a long, opposite-field double and an intentional walk. But it was Ortiz’s two-run homer off Trevor Bauer in the ninth inning that solidified the Red Sox’s 6-2 win.

The home run was Ortiz’s 504th of his career, tying Eddie Murray for 26th on the all-time list. It also was the fifth time Ortiz hit a long ball on Opening Day for the Red Sox.
