Patriots’ Day holds some special memories for David Ortiz, but he’ll watch this one from the dugout.
The slugger is out of the Boston Red Sox’s lineup for their matinee contest against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Hanley Ramirez will fill Ortiz’s designated hitter spot and bat fifth, while Travis Shaw will slide to first base and bat cleanup.
Dustin Pedroia will return to his usual second base post after missing Sunday’s game and will bat second.
Josh Rutledge is set make his 2016 Red Sox debut, starting at third base and batting seventh. Chris Young will start in left field and bat sixth, as Brock Holt will sit out for the second consecutive game.
Christian Vazquez will do the catching for starting pitcher Clay Buchholz, who is seeking his first win of 2016 after surrendering five runs over five innings in last Tuesday’s loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
