Do the New England Patriots secretly hate their boss?
Every locker room is bound to have players who don’t like their head coach, just like every other job in America is bound to have employees who don’t like whoever’s in charge. But DeAngelo Williams believes the Patriots have a bigger issue in that only one player on the team likes head coach Bill Belichick.
That player, according to Williams, is quarterback Tom Brady, who is entering his 17th season playing alongside Belichick in New England.
Williams dropped this odd claim back in February in response to a tweet suggesting New England would welcome him in its backfield. The Pittsburgh Steelers running back was asked about the comment Wednesday on ESPN’s “His and Hers,” and he stuck to his guns while explaining that it’s an outside observation.
“I’m just going by what I see,” Williams said. “It’s my opinion, it’s my Twitter, it’s my social atmosphere, so I can say what I want to say, and I said it. From what I’ve seen, the only person who looks like they like Bill Belichick is Tom Brady.”
Asked whether it matters, Williams gave a convoluted response. According to Williams, fans don’t care, but players like to be comfortable with their locker-room situation.
Williams’ claim seems like nothing more than an opponent speaking out against the Patriots, as so many have done before. There’s nothing to suggest New England’s locker room is on the verge of a mutiny, especially with the organization contending for a Super Bowl title year in and year out.
In fact, players who enjoy winning seem to like New England. And Belichick is part of the deal.
