Pablo Sandoval’s Agent Questions Red Sox’s Handling Of ‘Ferrari’ Client

Pablo Sandoval’s agent isn’t buying that the Boston Red Sox made the right decision by benching his client ahead of Opening Day.

Red Sox manager John Farrell announced Thursday that Travis Shaw will start at third base over Sandoval to begin the 2016 season. Sandoval initially took the news in stride, telling reporters Thursday he was “happy” with the decision, but the two-time All-Star’s camp sang a different tune Friday.

It’s unclear whether the Red Sox will consider trading Sandoval, who’s in the second year of a five-year, $95 million contract he signed before last season. It’d be complicated from a financial standpoint, and it’s difficult at this point to gauge what type of market there would be for Sandoval’s services.

Sandoval is coming off a disappointing 2015 season in which he hit .245 with 10 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .658 OPS while also underperforming defensively at third base.
