The New England Patriots added their third free-agent defensive tackle Thursday, when they signed Markus Kuhn.

The 6-foot-4, 303-pound defensive lineman was selected in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. The North Carolina State product has 48 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 39 games and 11 starts with the Giants.

Kuhn had 20 tackles and 1/2 sack in 10 games and nine starts in 2015.

The Patriots previously signed defensive tackles Terrance Knighton and Frank Kearse this offseason. They also have Malcom Brown, Alan Branch, Dominique Easley, Chris Jones, Ishmaa’ily Kitchen and Joe Vellano on their roster.

The Patriots now have 77 players on their 90-man roster, leaving 13 spots open for their 11 draft picks and undrafted free agents.

The Patriots typically only carry four or five defensive tackles on their 53-man regular season roster, so there will be some competition for those roles in training camp.
