Report: Patriots Sign Patrick Chung To One-Year Contract Extension

The New England Patriots have signed veteran strong safety Patrick Chung to a one-year contract extension, ESPN’s Field Yates reported Friday.

The deal saves the team a little bit of salary cap space in 2016 and gives Chung additional guaranteed money.

Here’s the financial breakdown of the deal, per Yates. The extension includes a $2.4 million signing bonus, the Boston Herald’s Jeff Howe reported Friday.

Chung played a key role in a very good Patriots defense last season, racking up 82 tackles, nine passes defended and one forced fumble in 15 games.

The 28-year-old originally was selected by New England in the second round of the 2009 draft. He played his first four seasons with the Patriots before leaving to join the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013. Chung returned to the Pats in 2014.
