Sharks Advance To First Stanley Cup Final As Joel Ward Scores Two Goals

The San Jose Sharks just took a big bite out of their negative playoff narratives.

Known more for choking under pressure than getting the job done when it counts, the Sharks took the first step to truly silencing their doubters Wednesday night, advancing to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history.

San Jose dismantled the St. Louis Blues in Game 6 of the Western Conference finals, 5-2, including taking a 4-0 lead late in the third period to put the game out of reach.

Joel Ward was the hero once again, netting two goals for the second consecutive game.

The Sharks await the winner of the Pittsburgh Penguins-Tampa Bay Lightning winner in Game 7 on Thursday. Sharks alternate captain Joe Thornton isn’t too concerned about who wins, though. In fact, he’ll play both.

The Stanley Cup Final begins Monday.
