NHL Free Agency Rumors: Brian Campbell To Join Blackhawks For Second Time?

Brian Campbell arguably is the best defenseman as the NHL begins free agency begins Friday at noon ET.

He’s 37 years old, but the former Stanley Cup champion still is a top-four defenseman capable of logging 20-plus minutes per game.

The best fit for him is the Chicago Blackhawks, with whom he played for from 2008-09 through 2011-12 and won a championship in 2010. It sounds like there could be a reunion in the works.

FOX Sports Midwest’s Andy Strickland provided an update Thursday on Campbell’s situation, and it was far from surprising.

The Blackhawks need a top-four defenseman. They haven’t yet found a suitable replacement for Johnny Oduya and Brent Seabrook no longer plays at an elite level.

Campbell would be an excellent addition on a short-term contract. He tallied 31 points (six goals, 25 assists) for the Panthers last season and hasn’t missed a regular-season game since the 2010-11 campaign.
